Does your organisation have good water stewardship?
Water is essential for mankind’s survival. But it’s not just us who depend on water. Organisations depend upon it too. Water stewardship is becoming an increasingly critical issue, with growing competition for scarce water resources in many regions of the world.
Right now, the issue of how to protect this precious resource is in the public eye and on the global agenda more than ever before, not only for governments and society as a whole but for organisations who are expected to take ownership for addressing environmental concerns, by taking steps to ensure the sustainable management of the water they use.
Water scarcity is now acknowledged as a global problem. Cities should begin working now on unique solutions to local problems such as drought, drier climate, increased temperature or potential significant population growth, rather than wait for the water to run out.
About water stewardship and certification
Stewardship is about taking care of something that we do not own. Water stewardship approaches the management of limited freshwater resources and is based on the principle of collective accountability for the sustainable management of those resources.
The Alliance for Water Stewardship was set up as a global membership-based collaboration. The aim is to lead a global network that promotes responsible use of freshwater that is socially and economically beneficial and environmentally sustainable.
This is achieved through a global water stewardship system, centred on the International Water Stewardship Standard (the AWS Standard), that drives, recognizes and rewards good water stewardship performance. The AWS Standard provides a globally-applicable framework for major water users to understand their water use and impacts, and to work collaboratively and transparently for sustainable water management within a catchment context.
BM TRADA Australia provides auditing, and certification to the AWS Standard and works with an AWS approved training organisation to offer training to companies, specialists and auditors.
TRADA works with a number of customers around the world. These can be organisations or community projects alike.
Ensuring your organisation or community tackles this issue will be vital to long term survival and growth.
