Our new Q‑Mark Fire Door Processing Scheme (EN 13501-2) provides fabricators with a clear and compliant pathway to certification based on the EN classification framework.
The scheme covers the processing of door elements for use in fire-resisting and smoke control timber doorsets and/or door assemblies, and provides third-party assurance that processed components meet the supporting evidence required for EN 13501-2 classified door solutions.
The products are subject to continuous conformity assessment through evaluation of Factory Production Control and periodic audit testing, which provides valuable feedback on product performance.
The Q-Mark Fire Door Processing Scheme supports the EN 13501-2 classification system. The performance of door elements is evaluated using the EN 1634-1 test standard for fire resistance and EN 1634-3 test standard for smoke control. The scope of designs is contained in the Extended Field of Application report prepared to the relevant part of the EN 15269 series.
Q-Mark certified timber door elements may be used within Q-Mark Certification to construct a fully certified doorset classified to EN 13501-2, or supplied directly to market to provide an EN 13501-2 classified door assembly.
Note: On 2nd September 2024, the UK Government confirmed that the National Classes fire testing standards will be withdrawn from Approved Document B (England) in favour of the EN 13501 series of European classification standards. A transition period of 5 years was given by the UK Government for fire resisting construction products, meaning products such as fire resisting doorsets will need to be classified to EN 13501-2 for the relevant performance characteristics by 2nd September 2029.

The schemes provide added assurance on the manufacturing processes used for the construction of doorsets and that they have been constructed in accordance with their supporting evidence. The products are subject to continuous assessment through Factory Production Control audits and periodic audit testing, which provides valuable feedback on product performance.
The schemes are based on the EN 13501-2 classification system. The performance of the products is evaluated using the EN 1634-1 test standard for fire resistance and EN 1634-3 test standard for smoke control. The scope of designs is contained in an Extended Field of Application (EXAP) report prepared to the relevant part of the EN 15269 series, and the performance characteristics of the doorset are classified meeting the requirements of EN 13501-2.

The Q-Mark Systems House Scheme has been updated to accommodate the EN classification system (EN 13501-2) but will also continue to be used for cascading evidence generated for use with other Q-Mark certification schemes that are based on BS and EN test standards.
A systems house is a product designer who submits an “assembled product” for initial type testing to determine the performance characteristics with the primary aim of making the supporting evidence available to manufacturers in order to construct products using their design specifications, initial type testing, processing and appropriate technical information.
It is a widely recognised route for supplying construction products to market where the same system design can be cascaded for construction by multiple manufacturers.
The aim of the Q-Mark Systems House Scheme is to provide added assurance to both manufacturers and end users that the technical information is correctly documented and controlled. This scheme is designed to facilitate the cascading of design systems, which play a critical role within the supply chain for the manufacture of performance doorsets.
Any company that wishes to cascade systems to manufacturers in new Q-Mark manufacturers' schemes must be certified within the Q-Mark Systems House Scheme.
- Scope: Timber and composite door blanks
- Product Performance: Verification of consistent manufacture. It is a requirement for door blanks to be certified under this scheme for manufacturing fire doors under the BM TRADA Q-Mark schemes for fire door manufacturers.
This scheme facilitates the supply of door blanks to door manufacturers and provides confidence that the blank is made consistently to an agreed recipe and/or specification and will therefore help maintain the performance of the completed doorset.
