Wood Packaging Material Marking

Registration to the UK wood packaging material marking programme (UKWPMMP).

Plant Health Organisations around the world have long since recognized the risk posed by movements of wooden packaging material – especially the lower grade material that is used, often as dunnage, to transport some types of goods.

Incidents involving new pest outbreaks have prompted the international community to promote the development of an international standard to address this problem.

In March 2002, the Interim Commission on Photosanitary Measures endorsed ISPM 15 “Guidelines for regulating wood packaging material in international trade”.

The UKWPMMP is based on the guidelines set out in ISPM 15 and is run by Timber Packaging and Pallet Manufacturers Confederation (TIMCON) in the UK on behalf of the Forestry Commission (FC) in Great Britain, and the Forest Service of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for Northern Ireland (FS).

BM TRADA is one of the Independent Agencies who can carry out audits on behalf of TIMCON.
