ColourWorld ‘empowers clients’ by offering FSC & PEFC chain of custody certification
Date: 28th October 2009
Print and digital media design specialist ColourWorld has achieved both FSC and PEFC chain of custody certification with BM TRADA Certification Ltd. General Manager Mark Andrews said: ‘By working towards certification we felt that we were not only taking steps to ensure that we were running our business in the most eco-friendly way possible, but also that we were recognised as doing so within the industry.’ As well as developing business with existing clients, ColourWorld has won new customers on the strength of its chain of custody certification. Mr Andrews added, ‘Like us, our customers take environmental issues seriously. We want to empower them to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions by giving them an eco-friendly print solution.’ There have been additional benefits for the company, he said. ‘Interestingly, the certification process has helped to streamline our stock acquisition and storage processes. It has also given us a positive message to promote to our suppliers and to local people.’
The £3.2 million turnover company, based in Winchester, can design and print a whole range of marketing products, including brochures, direct mail, flyers & leaflets, posters, business stationery, exhibition graphics and websites, as well as copying services and lithographic printing. In honour of the recognition, the company has filmed their own quirky short film which you can view by visiting www.diablocolourworld.co.uk

Chain of Custody Certification
Chain of Custody certification is the unbroken path which products take from the forest to the consumer, including all stages of manufacturing, transportation and distribution. Chain of Custody certification provides evidence that the certified product originates from certified, well-managed forests.
BM TRADA is accredited by the Forest Stewardship Council to offer FSC Chain of Custody and by UKAS to offer Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Chain of Custody Certification, and also operates its own Forest Products Certification Scheme. Clients may be certified to one or all of the schemes by BM TRADA.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
FSC is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1993 to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.
Its principal activities are the development of forest management and related standards, communications and education, and through a separate programme the accreditation and monitoring of certification bodies working to FSC standards.
Based on these standards, FSC has developed an international labelling scheme for forest products. In this way FSC provides an incentive in the market place for good forest stewardship – and enables consumers to track timber and wood products right back to the forest, with the assurance that they have been sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Over the past 12 years, more than 84 million hectares in 82 countries have been certified according to FSC standards, while several thousand products are produced using FSC-certified wood and wood fibre and carrying the FSC trademark. FSC operates through its network of National Initiatives in 40 countries. Visit www.fsc.org.
