Enterprise first: ISO 9001 Joint Venture with Local Authority
Date: 07th November 2007
Enterprise has entered a ground-breaking joint venture with the Isle of Anglesey County Council, centred on ISO 9001:2000 certification for General Highways Maintenance Works, Winter Maintenance Operations and Emergency Out-of-Hours Services. The initiative was commended by David E. James, Managing Director of auditors BM TRADA Certification Ltd, as “the first of its kind”.
Kevin Corbyn, the manager responsible for this initiative at Enterprise said, ‘Working together, we have ring-fenced this whole area of operation under one quality management system. As well as creating a more open approach to the management of our contract as service providers to the council, we have created a system which is transparent, cost-effective and highly efficient.’Enterprise has been the service provider for the Anglesey local authority for 5 years, partly through companies it acquired, and, according to Dewi R. Williams, Head of Service in the Council’s Highways Transportation Division, the service has always been exemplary. He said “We have enjoyed a high quality, innovative and proactive service and have a common understanding of working in partnership, by providing a best value service for the benefit of the people of Anglesey.
Under the joint Quality Management System (QMS), Mr Corbyn has trained both the Council’s and Enterprise’s own auditors and each will audit the other’s operations. He stressed “Training and consistency are key parts of any QMS. By training both audit teams as one, we can be sure of consistency of approach and understanding and there is no question of ”them and us”. We are all on the same side, working for the same goals”
Mr Corbyn praised the involvement of BM TRADA auditor Harold Spink. He said, “BM TRADA themselves offer a partnership approach and Harold’s knowledge and experience has enabled us all to move forward quickly” Enterprise and BM TRADA are now discussing a similar ISO 9001:2000 joint venture with other Local Authorities who have seen the success the approach has provided and want to learn and adapt it for their needs.
