Durable UK wins BOSS environmental award
Date: 08th December 2009
Durable UK Ltd, office products specialist based in Wimborne, Dorset, has won a major environmental award on the strength of its ISO 14001:2004 certification with BM TRADA. The company manufactures and distributes office organisation and presentation products to the UK market.
Durable UK scooped the 2009 Manufacturer Environmental Award at the British Office Supplies and Services (BOSS) Federation annual awards ceremony earlier this year. According to Customer Operations Manager Gary Jesson, ‘The achievement of, and ongoing improvement required by, the ISO14001 standard was clearly a major reason for the progress we have made on environmental matters and without this impetus we would not have won this award.’
Durable UK aims to control its impact on the environment by a regular review of its practices, Mr Jesson said, ‘to determine what procedures, measures and targets are required. Procedures in place cover material reuse, segregation and disposal of waste and reduction of CO2 emissions. Employees receive EMS training at induction, while ongoing communication is through briefings, noticeboards and electronic bulletins. Everyone is encouraged to raise environmental issues.’
Compliance is verified by internal audits, he added, while BM TRADA carries out an independent annual audit.
