CMS ENVIRO SYSTEMS WIN TOP SCOTTISH ENVIRONMENT AWARD

Date: 03rd December 2009

Scottish-based CMS Enviro Systems Ltd has scooped a prestigious environmental business award at a ceremony hosted by the Scottish Minister for the Environment Roseanna Cunningham.

CMS Enviro Systems is a leading manufacturer and installer of high quality PVCu and aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling systems for a largely commercial client base, including Local Authorities, Housing Associations and main contractors. All its PVCu products are 100% lead free and carry the prestigious Q-Mark third-party certification from UKAS-accredited BM TRADA Certification Ltd.

CMS Enviro Systems picked up the VIBES (Vision in Business for the Environment) award for Best Management Medium Category (50 - 250 employees) at the event held in Holy Rood, where other winners included Robert Wiseman Dairies, William Tracey Ltd and Stagecoach. To win, CMS Enviro Systems demonstated financial viability and cost savings through its environmentally sustainable products and practices, including recycling, which has led the company to securing business for the next four years.

Andrew Kerr, managing director of CMS Enviro Systems, said: "It’s great to win such an important and prestigious award. At CMS Enviro Systems our environmental and recycling initiatives are central to our business. To be able to demonstrate that it’s possible to provide cost-effective, profitable and sustainable solutions within our industry is an achievement we are very proud of.”

The VIBES Awards recognise and reward the efforts of businesses that use environmental improvements to become more efficient and competitive whilst benefiting their bottom-line and their employees. The awards are in partnership with Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Environmental Protection UK, Envirowise and NetRegs.

Presenting the awards, Minister for Environment Roseanna Cunningham said: "Many Scottish businesses, including those recognised at the VIBES Awards, are becoming increasingly aware that tackling their environmental impact can also deliver major economic benefits – both through cutting costs and attracting new business. “

VIBES chair Alan Farquhar commented: “All of the VIBES finalists recognised today are leading the way in their commitment to reducing their businesses’ environmental impact. In what is the tenth year of VIBES, the judges were once again impressed by the winners’ outstanding achievements – both in terms of their business savings and their environmental improvements and they deserve to be be praised.”

By winning a VIBES award, finalists are eligible to enter the European Business Awards for the Environment 2012, which attract around 200 entries per year from the cream of Europe’s most environmentally positive businesses. VIBES is the only award scheme in Scotland that feeds into these prestigious European awards.
