Walters Plant Hire has achieved certification for two key business management systems - ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, adding to its existing certification to ISO 9001, covering quality, environment and health & safety. The company provides plant and equipment for all types of conditions and applications, along with technical and practical backup for clients in the civil engineering, quarrying, mining and extractive waste sectors, 24 hours a day.
The company is part of the Walters Group, established in 1982, and two of its sister companies Walters UK Ltd and Walters Environmental Ltd already hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 with BM TRADA.
Based in Hirwaun, South Wales, the group has an annual turnover of £50m and employs around 300 staff. The Walters fleet has expanded over the years to comprise more than 300 major plant items with a combined earthmoving capacity of more than 30 million m3 a year. The plant fleet is one of the largest capacity and most modern fleets for bulk earthworks in Europe and provides a nationwide service. As Group Systems and Training Manager Philip Jarman said, ‘Walters Plant Hire has the capability to respond quickly and efficiently to any muckshift requirements, including technically challenging schemes such as current day motorway widening contracts. The plant fleet is supported by extensive in-house workshop facilities and field support capacity.’
Walters Plant Hire, he added, ‘will reap increasing benefits from its triple certification through the ever increasing requirement for pre-qualification and through having a more professional edge over its competitors when tendering for new work. We are confident our certification will lead to business opportunities with new clients, particularly major contractors.’
In addition, in August this year, Walters Group acquired the assets and contracts of Gorrel Trading, further expanding its plant hire capacity with an additional 200 items of plant. Now registered as Gorrel Equipment Solutions Ltd, the company will continue specialising in long-term self drive hire contracts within the waste, recycling and materials handling sectors.
Gorrel too has now been successfully audited by BM TRADA to enable the transfer of its existing certifications to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in line with the rest of the group.
