London, UK – December 11, 2018 – Last month, BM TRADA hosted its annual Better Timber Buildings conference in partnership with TRADA.

Nearly 200 delegates from the construction industry’s supply chain gathered at the Royal Geographical Society in London for the day, which featured a programme of speakers focused on the theme of levelling up the industry and ‘building better buildings with timber.’

Anthony Thistleton, founding Partner of Waugh Thistleton, kicked off the day with a keynote speech calling it the “Timber Age”.

Speaking about innovations in the timber industry, he said: “We’re very excited by the Timber Age. We’re already seeing a new architecture emerge and what we haven’t begun to understand yet is exactly what this new urbanism of the Timber Age will be.”

Anthony’s initial address created the theme for the day, with subsequent speakers highlighting their views on the possibilities of this new architecture and new urbanism, and sharing the tools necessary to achieve it.

Rob Veitch, EVP of Fire & Building Products, Element said: “There are so many unexplored territories in the field of timber construction and there is a lot of room for innovation. Changes can be implemented across the supply chain so it was great to see such a varied and diverse audience at this year’s conference."

“Supporting TRADA with this event, our aim was to create something that was both interesting and stimulated conversation and ideas, but could also be applied to real-life situations. We hope that this year’s attendees agree that this was the case and they gained valuable insight that they can implement in future.”
